Dentelles De Montmirail

Two treks possible: Duration: 6-7 hours, 14 kms or 3-4 hours, 7km

Difficulty: Both are challenging: 7/10

Between the earth and the sky…Some places remind us of the full majesty of nature. On the cliffedge of the Dentelles de Montmirail  perspective can be gained of our place in time and space

The path then hugs the cliff edge, a head for heights will help here. Hands as well as feet are often needed over the next hour of the hike

Once the Dentelles have been traversed the hike continues on the other side of the rocks, the light changes, the feet are weary but vigilance is still needed, loose stones can make the footing precarious

Frequent breaks to catch your breath will provide you with pauses to marvel over the stunning panoramic views

Oppede le Vieux

Duration: 4/5 hours, 12 kms

Difficulty: Medium: 6/10

Winding out of the gorgeous Oppede le Vieux the walk starts with a deceptively easy start before a steep ascent up the face of the Luberon

Once the ascent is complete a well earned pause affords views of the dramatic valleys over either side of the peaks of the Massif du Luberon

The descent is no less stunning & steep. A fresh drink in one of the many water holes in the old village is a well deserved reward

Gorge Du Badarel

Duration: 3-4 hours, 7 kms

Difficulty medium: 6/10

A stunning hike, with short and steep ascent in a wild gorge, filled with the herbs of Provence, thyme, rosemary and majoram, surrounded by delicate butterflies in the warmer months

As the valley opens up panoramic views over the valley of Cavaillon and Mont Ventoux bring delight. As the path hugs the rocky crags of the cliff, the perspective changes with the frequency of the foliage. The dramatic and steep descent requires the sure footing of a mountain goat

Gorge du Regalon

Duration: 4-5 hours, 11 kms

Difficulty medium: 6/10

A magical trail at the base of a dramatic gorge. Birdsong regales us enroute and all the scents of nature feel very close in the narrows of this path

Hands as well as feet are needed at times in some of the craggy passes

The narrows of the gorge are followed by the majesty of the Luberon as we mount the rocky mountain face to picnic in the sun

Gordes to Abbaye de Senanque

Duration: 3-4 hours, 8 kms

Difficulty medium: 5/10

The walk begins with a Roman stone lined road that transports us to another era. Olive trees line our path on the Provencal idyll walk. The unbalanced stones can be challenging, good shoes are recommended

The colours and scents of Provence surround us and we plunge into a wooded forest that leads to the Abbaye. Recent renovations render the ancient Abbaye spectacular as it stands in solitary spendor overlooking the wide stretch of lavender fields that span the valley before the monastic buildings

A stunning hike in the heart of the Luberon

A hike into Fontaine du Vaucluse from Lagnes

Duration: 4-5 hours, 12 kms

Difficulty medium: 7/10

A challenging hike of steep ascents and rough footed descents over the hills and through the valleys between Lagnes and the source of the Sorgue River that sills majestically out of a cavern in the rocks

We picnic at the abandoned castle high above the village of Fontaine de Vaucluse

The village of Fontaine De Vaucluse is often busy but steeped in poetic medieval history and the source of the river is worth a peak

The return route leads us through some of the prettiest paths in the regions until we arrive at the picturesque village of Lagne
